Spinach

Spinach is originated in 2000 years ago in ancient Persia and then introduced to India and China via Nepal and then introduced to sicily and to Europe around 15 century and  belongs to family Amaranthaceae and genus spinacia oleracea and scientific name is spinacia oleracea. It is a leafy annual and is very nutritious.It has lots of compounds like carotenoids, flavonoids and other phenolic compounds. Baby spinach has bioactive compounds. It contains folic acid, lutein, chlorophyll, phenols, iron. Now we are going to write some of the benefits of spinach for healthy living.

  • Alpha linoleic acid present manage blood sugar level in the body that you can see in the diabetic patients’ neurological symptoms like numbness of feet and hands including tingling and itching and weakness of extremities.
  • Four antioxidants lutein, zeaxanthin, neoxanthin and violaxanthin have anticancer properties that helps to beat up aggressive form of cancer.
  • Spinach has high content of iron in it. Spinach is healthier when cooked because it breaks down high content of oxalic acid in it.
  • Vitamin C present helps in absorption of calcium and leafy greens that are good sources of vitamins and minerals.
  • Magnesium plays very important role in cardiovascular health and also prevents migraines.
  • Anti-inflammatory properties helps to heal cellular and tissue damage.
  • Coenzyme Q10 found in spinach helps to strengthen muscles.
  • Potassium present in spinach helps to reduce risk of heart disease.
  • Due to presence of calcium it helps to increase bone density.
  • Vitamin K helps to reduce risk of haemophelia.
  • Due to presence of high amount of lutein it helps to improve ocular health.
  • Folic acid that is Vitamin B9 is a water soluble and is very important during pregnancy to reduce birth defects in children.
  • Vitamin A and Beta carotene also prevents liver damage and eye health

  • Vitamins present in spinach helps to reduce oxidative stress.
  • Drinking spinach juice helps to lower blood pressure.
  • I think I wrote a lot about spinach in this article and hopefully very beneficial for the people who ever reads it. I think I am going to write a very fresh and beautiful spinach salad recipe with baby tomatoes with a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of salt.
  • 1 cup of baby tomatoes.
  • 1 cup of raw baby spinach.
  • Few cucumbers slices.
  • Pinch of salt.
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice.

Mix all the ingredients in big bowl and eat it. Its very healthy and nutritious. I think that is enough for today. See you guy tomorrow when I write my next blog on another beautiful fresh ingredient.
